Job Description

Why RAW?

At Raw Art Works (RAW) , we believe that all young people should be seen + heard, and that everyone has a story to tell. Rooted in art therapy, our creative community arts organization empowers youth through the arts, helping them envision new possibilities for their future. Founded in 1988, RAW fosters an inclusive, trauma-informed environment where young people can express themselves and build strong relationships. Serving over 350 youth annually, we are recognized nationally for our impact in Creative Youth Development.

About the Position

As an Expressive Arts Therapist, you'll be a vital part of RAW's program team, leading 4-5 art therapy groups for elementary through high school youth during the school year and summer. You will design and facilitate group sessions rooted in expressive arts therapy, manage supplies and budgets, maintain a welcoming studio, and contribute group work to RAW's annual art gallery show. You will foster a safe, inclusive space where youth can explore their emotions and build resilience through creative expression.

What You'll Bring to the Team

  • Expertise in Visual Arts Program Development: You have experience designing and implementing developmentally appropriate visual arts programs for youth (grades 4-12), integrating a variety of art mediums with a foundation in art therapy principles.
  • Commitment to Youth-Centered, Trauma-Informed Care: You create safe, inclusive, and supportive environments where young people feel emotionally and artistically supported. You skillfully apply trauma-informed practices tailored to individual needs.
  • Strong Social-Emotional Development Focus: You actively incorporate social and emotional learning into your programming, adapting curriculum based on youth feedback and developmental needs, and collaborating with clinical teams to optimize outcomes.
  • Program Management Skills: You bring experience managing budgets, resources, and program logistics, ensuring smooth delivery of workshops, events, exhibits, and community engagement activities.
  • Excellent Communication and Documentation Abilities: You are adept at producing detailed program evaluations, progress reports, and engaging multimedia content that demonstrates impact and supports fundraising efforts. Familiarity with Salesforce or similar data tracking tools is a plus.
  • Collaborative and Innovative Mindset: You thrive in team settings, contribute ideas for new programs and processes, and are adaptable to the evolving needs of a dynamic organization.
  • Professional Growth Orientation: You actively seek ongoing professional development through supervision, training, and peer learning while balancing your workload effectively.
  • Organizational Commitment: You are dedicated to upholding organizational values and mission, supporting administrative processes, and performing additional duties as needed to help drive the organization's vision forward.

Qualifications We're Looking For

At RAW, we prioritize finding the best candidate, not just ticking boxes. If you're passionate about expressive arts and ready to make an impact, we encourage you to apply.

  • Master's degree in Expressive Art Therapy or a closely related field
  • A current artist's portfolio showcasing diverse materials and techniques, reflecting your own work or your work with others
  • Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience working directly with youth in creative, community, or clinical settings

Who You'll Connect With

  • Regular, in-person interaction with RAW employees
  • Frequent engagement with members, both in person and by phone
  • Collaboration with external vendors through face-to-face meetings and phone communication

What We Offer

  • A mission-driven workplace dedicated to empowering youth.
  • A supportive, inclusive, and creative team environment.
  • Professional development opportunities to support growth and learning.
  • Competitive salary and benefits package: We offer a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, FSA and HRA options, life and AD&D insurance, and short- and long-term disability coverage. Our 401(k) plan and paid time off (PTO) ensure financial security and work-life balance. Additional benefits include access to Talkspace Online Therapy and Public Service Loan Forgiveness eligibility.
  • The opportunity to make a meaningful impact on young people's lives.

Why You'll Love Working Here

At RAW, we believe in the power of art and community to create lasting change. Our culture is built on collaboration, creativity, and care, where every team member is valued and encouraged to bring their authentic self to work. You'll be part of a team that is passionate, committed, and ready to make a difference.

How to Apply

Interested candidates should submit a resume, cover letter, and artist's portfolio. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled. The process typically includes:

  • Initial Screening – A brief phone or Zoom conversation with the hiring manager.
  • Interview – In-person with the hiring manager and Deputy Director (or relevant staff).
  • Role Engagement – An opportunity to connect with RAW's work, either through an in-person youth interaction or a virtual activity aligned with the role's responsibilities.
  • Reference Checks – Calls to references provided by the candidate.
  • Offer & Next Steps – A job offer or a final interview to address remaining questions, followed by salary and benefits discussions. The offer is finalized once both parties agree and sign.
